Jurgen Klopp says a return to lead Liverpool is theoretically possible.
The German coach, who departed from Liverpool in 2024, has suggested that a future comeback is something that could happen. The 58-year-old, after a transformative nine-season tenure that included continental glory and the Premier League crown in 30 years, has since taken on positions as head of global soccer within the Red Bull organization and providing guidance for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
The club claimed the Premier League in the previous campaign, yet numerous supporters holding him in high esteem would be thrilled by the possibility of his potential comeback. In a wide-ranging interview, he shared with his interviewer: “I said I won't manage any other side in England. Which implies should it be the Reds...absolutely. It's plausible.”
“Being 58, that means the choice could be mine in a few years, I don’t know. Must I choose now? Then I will not coach again. Luckily, it's not necessary. I'll wait and observe what lies ahead.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Pressed on what circumstances must arise to tempt his return to the dugout, Klopp admitted he was not instantly drawn for a comeback. “I don’t even know exactly, I love what I do right now,” he commented. “I don’t miss coaching; No desire to be in the rain for lengthy sessions; No need for press conferences repeatedly each week or constant media duties each week.
“The locker room isn't missed as a dressing room, yet sharing a meal with the players talking freely, that’s nice. We won a lot of games thus frequently great spirits at the club. I still have Van Dijk's laughter ringing in my ears to illustrate.”
Praise for His Successor
Klopp was full of praise for his successor, crediting him for the tweaks that won the league last term. The team has suffered four in a row in all competitions after a summer spending spree, yet he dismissed the suggestion it could be a decline.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker like Florian Wirtz, critics will regret with negative comments. A remarkable prospect. [Hugo] Ekitike, incredible player. This is a well-built thoughtfully assembled roster. Fans shouldn't fret regarding the Reds, they'll bounce back.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
Klopp also spoke emotionally on the loss of the Portuguese star, whom he brought in during his tenure, and its impact for the team. The forward lost his life in a vehicle collision alongside his brother in July.
“How do you replace such an individual? This isn't just regarding his footballing ability, his personality mattered. I can’t imagine the dressing room missing him. Putting it into words is tough regarding this. A profound tragedy for his teammates as well. Nobody at Liverpool will ever use it as an excuse though it's a fact. You walk in a dressing room where his spirit remains. Dealing with that on a personal level is challenging. Impossible.”
