Slot Asserts He Feels Secure and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's expected for doubts to be asked about his position following another heavy loss against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in 12 games, representing the team's worst streak after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I have got significant support from above,” the coach commented.
“It would be nice to change things and earn three points of course but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Talks with The Board
When asked to expand on his conversations with the team officials, the head coach revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don’t call me constantly each day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “During our regular discussions I perceive the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat so far so let’s see.”
Familiar Problems and Player Reaction
The manager lamented familiar weaknesses from his team in their Champions League loss, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” Jones stated.
“It is not good enough. I don't have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the words.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I play for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a phase like this with performances so bad.”
He concluded, “However we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And until that badge is removed, we’re always going to fight.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad back to the top, show everyone again what this club is about and why people call it the best team in the planet.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
