The Division Makes Its Way to the Tabletop as a Deeply Strategic TTRPG
The gritty world of Tom Clancy’s The Division will be translated into a tabletop role-playing experience. A partnership was established to create a tabletop RPG set within the series' apocalyptic landscape. The project was revealed, with a funding drive planned to begin in the spring of 2026.
"This project aims to deliver the series' unique suspense, strategic depth, and iconic world-building to the tabletop, offering fans a new way to engage with The Division through deep narrative and player-driven missions," reads an official release.
Launch products will include a beginner's box, core rulebooks, a GM screen, miniatures, and various deluxe editions.
Delving Into The Division's Dystopian World
In this universe, a deadly virus called Green Poison was released in NYC, sending the nation into chaos. As the crisis worsens, civil order breaks down and hostile groups rise, transforming the city into a battlefield. To restore order, the government {activate|deploy] The Division, a secret cell of sleeper agents. That’s where the agents enter the story.
Development on the RPG has been underway for approximately three years, and it is confirmed to be finished. The forthcoming crowdfunding effort will serve as a preorder system to reach a wider market, specifically in the United States. Manufacturing is slated to begin immediately following the campaign, with deliveries expected for the latter part of 2026.
A Streamlined Tactical System: The GRIS System
An early look at the game's rules reveals it employs 10-sided dice predominantly through its new GRIS system, encouraging a fast-paced and tactical style. Players use abilities to assemble small dice pools, typically between one and five d10s.
- Rather than summing the total, participants select a single “resolution die” from the pool.
- This die is then measured against a target difficulty.
- Achieving a natural 10 grants additional bonuses, such as extra damage or boosted support.
Engagements Focus On Positioning and Awareness
Battles stress positioning and environmental awareness, mirroring the video games. Factors like taking cover, height advantage, or line of sight directly influence dice rolls. This system seems built to reward teamwork and clever tactics instead of simple statistics.
A Thematic Health System
The way health is tracked adds a interesting thematic twist. Agents have a injury limit; sustaining too much damage weakens their capabilities by decreasing the size of their dice pool.
- At zero health, an operative is downed, but is not unconscious.
- They can still crawl and take limited actions, emulating the last stand seen in video game shooters.
- Any agent knocked down must roll on a trauma table, risking lingering conditions like trauma or mobility-impairing wounds.
An Introductory Scenario
A publicly available introductory rulebook will be released soon. It includes a ready-to-play starting adventure titled Ashes of Murray Hill. In this scenario, the group spearhead the search for a lost doctor squad and work to stop an attack by the notorious Rikers faction, who have taken over that Manhattan district. Further information and the full range of offerings will be detailed near the Kickstarter start date.
