The New Animated Series' Opening Sequence Chose the Wrong Popular RPG Show Track
This latest animated series, the newest animated series from Critical Role, unveiled an exciting introductory sequence. It features our favorite cast of misfits, misfits, and rogues kicking ass and making their mark, while teasing at several heart-wrenching personal histories for key figures including the voice actor's mage Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, Fjord.
Overall, the opening looks amazing. However, I felt that an element was lost in the music selection.
This sequence uses "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar composition composed by producer and singer Colm McGuinness. This piece originating from the official score of the same name, the second one put out by the production company's record label their music brand. It's a great sentimental choice, and I believe that fans of the sequel series will appreciate its inclusion.
Personally, The Mighty Nein's intro fails to capture the hype and excitement that accompanied the show's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", written by musician Jason Charles Miller, became an immediate hit in my view when it was first revealed in that year, and it improved further when co-founder the performer added lyrics to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.
Including singing from one actress, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as the writer, the track was catchy and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't seen the follow-up series yet, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my phone. This track that excites you before you dive into an installment of adventurous fun.
The show's intro with "the new song" fails to hit the same chords for me. It's an impressive composition, but from what I know of the group, I feel that its mood is a little off.
Of course, the creators has stated that the series will have a few surprises and variations from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its intro appears as among these.
The Mighty Nein will be released on Prime Video from November 19. If you can't wait before that, or wish to prepare to learn about the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are accessible on Spotify and YouTube.
