From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a thrilling plot featuring angels, demons, and malevolent powers expanding in influence within the city.
Note: Key plot points for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
Episode 3 concluded with a major cliffhanger and introduced the initial group of heroes who will separate from the main group to embark on their separate journey, separate from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table consists of the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Considering a large ensemble, it was evident from the start that keeping everyone at one table would be impossible.
This explains, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Prelude, connecting the individual narratives before splitting into three separate parties: Warriors, Schemers, and Questers.
What Defines the Combat Party
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for players who prefer a classically intense combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are rare.
Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might look mismatched, but the actions of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
First, the party knows exactly where to go next after a intense initial meeting with the antagonists.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose passing kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, striking the character, and stealing all the powerful objects to sell off.
Casimir then paid off his debts and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, above the urban center, with Cyd pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each member has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as the companion and best friend, seeks retribution.
- The adventurer has experience in the northern area and advises that it is a hostile place.
- The warrior and The healer, having defied his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- However, their status as key figures in House Halovar could help the group reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, The grateful character pledged a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now accompany him everywhere.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are hunted by the authorities that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are known criminals.
- Tyranny and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This leaves them few options but to journey toward Timmony in search of the traitor.
Upcoming Developments
According to the latest episode’s post-show segment, we learn that the combat party won’t be around the following episode, leaving the remaining eight cast members to form the Questers and Planners tables.
Fans can look forward to finding out which players will be in which group in the story’s final introductory chapter, released on the upcoming Thursday.
